Mark McCoy @ Jozo – Saturday February 18th
Big thanks to Mark McCoy for speaking with our members on Saturday and to all the Jozo members who attended. From all accounts – it was a big success! Great to have a Canadian Gold Medalist Olympian address our athletes. For those who missed the discussion, we will posting a link to Mark’s Jozo presentation on our website as soon as it is available.
Friday Training – Friday February 24th
Friday training this week is cancelled due to the extremely soft conditions and expected rain - please plan accordingly.

Next Weekend - Club Championships weekend - March 4-5:
We will all be stationed out of Petun Room in the Village Conference Centre (same building our large Banquet is held every year) on Saturday and Sunday from 8am-4pm. The U10 Celebrations on Saturday and Sunday will be held in The Georgian Bay Room from 1pm to 4pm (in Village Conference Centre). The Georgian Bay room is on the top floor with a balcony. The best place to park on March 4th and 5th is in the village parking lot or the lot at the end of the Millpond beside the Westin. Enter the building through the doors facing the parking lot and turn right to get to the rooms.
It’s time to start planning as excitement is beginning to build towards the Club Championships on the weekend of March 4th/5th . Here are the things you need to know:
All races will be held on Smart Alec beginning on the morning of Saturday March 4th, and ending on the morning of Sunday March 5th. The schedule of races will be posted on our website at www.jwracers.ca. The awards banquet for all travelling two-day U12, U14, U16 and U18 teams will be Saturday evening at the Blue Mountain Conference Centre. Tickets for this event are sold out. Awards for all U10 and non-travelling U12 teams will be presented following the races. No tickets are required for the U10/U12 non-travelling awards ceremony - stay tuned for specific location for these award ceremonies.
Medals & Merit Awards:
Awards this year will be presented in much the same manner as previous years. U10 and non-travelling U12 athletes will receive medals and top performers within each age category (boys and girls) will receive merit medals. U12, U14, U16 & U18 racers will see a set of Team awards presented (Top Boy, Top Girl, Most Spirited, and Most Improved). These are chosen by the coaches. We will also award Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the Club Championships top racers. Additionally, the top 5 finishers in U12, U14, U16 and U18 races and the winners of the Best Boy, Girl, Spirit and Most Improved will receive gift certificates from Mountain Equipment Co-Op.
Club Championships Competition:
All racers within the same age category will compete within the same Club Championships race. Which means our U14 O-Cup racers will compete against the rest of our amazing U14 athletes. The Board of the Jozo Volunteer Committee has elected to have only one category for each age group for 2017 as we believe the true spirit of a Club Championships is to have an open competition among all members of the club, regardless of the league each athlete competes in during the season. The Board believes that while an advantage may be gained by additional training, all athletes are entitled to take on additional training as they see fit, and all racers should be entitled to lay sole claim to the title “Club Champion”. We expect some spirited completion this year and we look forward to an exciting 2017 Championships. Good luck to all!
Club Championships Volunteers:
All Club Championship races will be held on Smart Alec beginning on the morning of Saturday March 4th, and ending on the morning of Sunday March 5th. The schedule of races will be posted on our website at www.jwracers.ca. These races cannot be held without volunteers. If you want to volunteer or if you have not yet volunteered - please do so for the Club Championships. Sign up here: http://www.jwracers.ca/teams/signup We need five sets of volunteers for the following races (feel free to volunteer for more than one race):
U10 Saturday + U12 Saturday
U10 Sunday, U12 Sunday, and U10 2 day
U16 + U18
World Cup Ski Cross:
Please note Blue Mountain Resort will be hosting the World Cup Ski Cross on the same weekend as our Club Championships. While this will be a very exciting event, and something very special for our young athletes to witness, it will also bring additional congestion to Blue Mountain’s facilities. Please plan accordingly – arrive early, car pool (if possible), plan to spend more of the weekend in The Village.

King of The Hill (Queens too):
Calling all Jozo Parents. The King of the Hill is back on. What is the King of the Hill? Every year (mostly) we have a race for parents and adult racers between Jozo and TCS. As you may know Jozo has a friendly rivalry with TCS, so this is a fun spirited event, followed by drinks and good comradery. It’s a great opportunity to try your luck at racing against like aged and skilled skiers. Don’t be shy, give it a try. By the way, Jozo is the defending champions. The race is March 25 in the morning. More details to come.
Ladies Day – Friday February 17th
Thank you to all the awesome ladies who joined us last Friday for Ladies Day. It was the biggest and most successful Jozo Ladies Day in history. We kicked off the festivities on Thursday evening with a warm up at Kaytoo and Twist Martini Bar. Friday was a gorgeous sunny and warm day. An early breakfast was followed by a couple of hours on the hill. After the U10s headed off for lunch the ladies raced through their gates on Smart Alec. The first run was a fun run with crackers, whistling, twerking and running. The second run was all about speed. Congratulations to Sandra Kellar for being the fastest chick on the hill. In the afternoon it was time to see who could outwit, outlast and outski with a game of Wine Survivor. Congratulations to the 5 people who walked away with the wine!! There were tons of prizes - congratulations to Caroline Aston for winning the 2017 Super Pass and Trinh Tham for winning the Jozo shot ski (we know it will be put to good use). Look for photos on the www.jwracers.ca website. And finally, a huge thank you to the Ladies Day Organizing Committee - Steph Inwood, Kathryn Freer, Vera Cvetkovic, Christina Warlop, Ulana Gorgi, Donna Kosar, Sally Chown, Laura Mastracci and Mareka Ellis-Smith for all of your hard work.
