Mastermind, AOA U10-U12 Championships, CanAms and Whistler Cup Updates
While the regular season wrapped up in early March after the Club Championships some Jozo athletes continued representing Jozo at many events in Ontario, Quebec and BC. Eight of our Jozo U14 athletes qualified for the Ontario Provincial Championships.
Mastermind U12 Invitational – March 18-19, 2015
Eleven of our U12 athletes represented Jozo at The Mastermind Invitational race held Devil’s Glen. Our racers did very well on two challenging courses over two days. The first race consists of two runs of panel slalom for a combined time. Day 2 was a GS course down the double diamond run named Stairway, one of the most challenging pitches in Ontario. The conditions were cold and icy...perfect for ski racing. Top results from Jozo go to Emma Reid with 9th place in both the slalom and GS races in the 11 year old division. In the 10 year old division our top racer was Max Murphy with 9th in GS and 7th in Slalom.
AOA U10-U12 Championships – March 21-22, 2015
Alpine Ontario held the U10 and U12 Championships in Muskoka over the weekend of March 21/22. Boys and girls competed over the two days in both Slalom and GS. Jozo had 12 athletes attend and had some excellent results once again. Olivia Dinardo placed 2nd in the GS and 3rd in the Slalom. No doubt chasing her two older sisters down the hill for years has made Olivia a fast skier. In the U12 girls division Emma Reid placed 4th in the GS and 6th in Slalom. Our top boys were Tate Hyland in the U10 category and Tristan Stryjnik in the U12 division.
SOD Championships – March 21-22, 2015
Thirteen Jozo Athletes from U14 attended the SOD Championship race held at Blue Mountain hosted by TSC. Our racers did very well again this year, with 4 placing in the top 10 and 10 placing in the top 20 over the two day event. Zach Hyland was the top Jozo boy with a 6th in GS and a 7th in Slalom, with Guilia Dinardo being the top Jozo girl placing 11th in the GS and 6th in Slalom. Other notable finishes included Andrew Kendell with a 36th in the GS with only one ski and 16th in Slalom, Paige Villeneive with 13th in the GS and Luke Veljovic taking 14th in GS and 10th in Slalom.
CanAms – Mont Tremblant – Team Ontario
U14 racer Luka Veljovic was selected to the Ontario team (top 15 boys and 15 girls from Provincials) for the CanAm’s held at Mont Tremblant, Quebec. Tough competition from racers representing Quebec, all of Ontario and the Eastern US made for a challenging event. The U14’s competed in a slalom, GS and and Super G.
32 countries from around the world attended the Whistler Cup, along with teams from Canada, BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. At the U14 level they also allow clubs to sign up 6 athletes consisting of 3 boys and 3 girls maximum. Luka Veljovic and Andrew Kendell both signed up for the race to represent Jozo Weider Racing. This event brings the best U14 and U16 racers from around the world together to compete over three days on Whistler Mountain. The U14 event includes two days of slalom and one day of GS racing and the U16 events include slalom, GS and Super G. There were over 260 U14 athletes at the event and an excellent representation of Ontario racers between the Ontario team and many of the local clubs. Andrew and Luka did well in the challenging international competition, made many new friends and had an amazing experience. Slalom races were held on the Dave Murray Downhill and GS/Super G races were held on the World Cup GS hill. Jozo Weider racing hopes to send more athletes to future Whistler Cup events as our team continues to grow and improve. Racers from Japan, Norway, Chile, New Zealand and Canada all placed in the top 10 in the U14 division.
Congratulations to all of our racers for a great 2015 race season!! We hope that everyone is enjoying the change of seasons and as we progress through to summer, keep you eye on our website for more great information on our up coming season (it will be here before you know it!)
