Men’s Day Prize Winners
Anyone winning a prize at Men’s Day that requires pick up, please make arrangements directly with Ken Blakeley
Ladies Day is less than 3 weeks away!! This is a fantastic event not to be missed and a great opportunity to meet other fun loving Jozo Ladies. This year, we will be offering a Thursday evening warm up (details to follow). Start the day on Friday with breakfast at Kaytoo, then hit the slopes. Test yourself in the gates on Cruiser and your speed with our radar gun. After you have tested your skills, more fun follows with an entertaining scavenger hunt on the hill. Not a skier, spend the morning in the village or at the spa nearby. Return to Kaytoo for lunch, a glass or 2 of wine, awesome prizes (including a seasons pass!), games and some (ahem) entertainment. Tickets will be on sale at The Inn at lunchtime Saturday and Sunday. Feel free to bring a friend or 2 as Ladies Day is not limited to Jozo Ladies only. Please let us know when purchasing your ticket if you require childcare. Otherwise, Friday gate training is always available for your racers. Please make sure to register your child with Nikki Wait in advance.
Jozo Gear Update and Sales
Anyone who pre-ordered a Jozo garment in early January, please drop by the lunch area at The Inn on Sunday February 28 to collect your gear. All extra Jozo garments (toques and t-shirts) will be on sale in the lunch room at The Inn at lunch on Sunday as well. There will be no sales or pick-up available on Saturday.
Family Dual Slalom Challenge
This is an event not to be missed! This is the opportunity every parent has been waiting for. It is your chance to show your racers what you've got. Mark your calendars, tune your skis and get training! The Annual Family Dual Slalom Challenge is scheduled for all racers and their families on March 13 at 1PM. More information to follow.
New Sound System
Thanks to Warren Copnick and John Kendell for organizing and installing a new sound system for the Jozo finish hut on Smart Alec. Warren was able to pick up a high quality amp and outdoor speaker for the race hut through business contacts and worked with John to have it delivered and wired in the finish hut. The system should be ready for this weekends races.
Alpine Ontario Skill Development Camps
Additional skill development camps are available through Alpine Ontario for racers in U10 - U14. AOA camp curriculum often includes lots of environments that provide opportunities for your athletes to focus on specific skills and build confidence.
Click the link for a full list of available camps.
To register your child for the camps, click the Registration button on the AOA Home page or follow the link:
AOA Muskoka Ski Club U10/U12 Championship Rodeo
This event is open to ALL U10 and U12 racers, they do not need to qualify for this race. This is a two-day event hosted by Muskoka Ski Club at Hidden Valley Highlands.
Race entry fee is $150 cash for 2 days of racing. Coaches fees are an additional $60 per day.
To register your racer, or if you have questions please contact Nikki Wait in the race office. U10 racers must first be registered with AOA before Nikki can register them for the event. This event is a "first paid/first to go" registration process. This event may fill up quickly.
Upcoming Additional Races
There are always lots of additional races happening throughout the season that are AOA sanctioned. For the full AOA race calendar check out the link below.
As the race season progresses, other non-AOA races do come up. Information on these races will come from the race office. These races may also be posted here on the jwracers website. Check back frequently for updates.
U14 and U16 Provincials Races (U14/U16):
Jozo has many athletes that will qualify for U14 Provincials and at least one athlete has qualified for U16 Provincials. All races are being held locally this year (U16 – Peaks/TSC March 7-11 and U14 at Osler/Alpine March 12-16). There are still three U14 qualifying races on the calendar so more Jozo athletes could qualify. Division 2 racers are entitled to attend Division 1 races if they finished in the top 5 in a Division 2 race. Athletes must have completed an AOA fitness test by Dec 31, 2015 to attend the provincials. Please see the race office if you have questions about this process.
Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) has a web based race result and scoring system that follows all registered athletes from U12 and above across Canada. Read here for more information on this system. (http://www.jwracers.ca/parents/special-race-information/)
Dry-land Training Blog Part 2
Follow our new page on dry-land training on our web-site (http://jwracers.ca/parents/dry-land-blog/). This week read about Canada Sport for Life and the first three stages of your child's athletic development.
Please remember if your child is racing at Blue Mountain to sign-up for a volunteer position on the the volunteer sign-up page (http://www.jwracers.ca/teams/signup). Remember to click the submit button once you have entered your name. The Blasters, Supernova's and the 2 Day Snow Stars are all racing this weekend at Blue Mountain and there are still lots of jobs to be filled. Remember there should be one parent volunteer for every racer racing.
Please remember to email Nikki Wait in the race office before noon on Thursday to register your child. You must include your child's full name and age group (i.e. U10, U12 etc.). It is vital that you register your child ahead of time so that the race office can ensure they have enough coaches on hill.
Please note that all athletes attending Friday training MUST be able to ride the chairlift alone. The coaches stay on the hill while athletes cycle up and down on their own.
